How NHS Dental Appointments Work
NHS dental care is offered according to clinical need, the practice’s NHS arrangements and appointment capacity. Being listed on a practice’s system does not, by itself, guarantee that an NHS appointment is available.
Availability differs between Haywards Heath, Hinchley Wood and Eltham and can change over time. Please contact your own practice for the current position rather than relying on historic website information.
What Is A Lapsed Patient?
A lapsed patient is someone who has not attended for a dental examination in the last three years.
If you have not attended for an examination within that period, ask your practice what appointment options are currently available. A new NHS appointment cannot be guaranteed and may depend on the practice’s capacity and the appropriate booking arrangements.
Keep Your Contact Details Up To Date
We may send appointment information and reminders by email, text message or other appropriate methods, but a reminder cannot be guaranteed. Please ensure your practice has your current contact details and arrange recommended examinations in good time.

We do not charge for missed NHS appointments. However, repeatedly missing appointments, cancelling without the required notice or arriving too late may affect our ability to offer further NHS appointments where capacity is limited.

If an NHS appointment is not available, ask your team about private examinations, Denplan Essentials or separately arranged hygiene care. A private plan or hygiene appointment does not reserve, guarantee or create an NHS appointment.
