Before Your Implant Appointment

Read the treatment plan and follow any preparation instructions provided by your implant team. Let the practice know about medicines, allergies, medical conditions and any changes to your health.

If your clinician prescribes antibiotics, mouthwash or another medicine, take it only as directed. Do not assume a medicine is needed unless it has been prescribed for you.

Ask your clinician whether you should eat before attending and whether a deposit or prepayment is required. If sedation has been arranged, follow the specific fasting, escort and travel instructions supplied by your team.

During Your Appointment

Your clinical team will review the proposed treatment, alternatives, benefits and possible risks before proceeding. You will have an opportunity to ask questions, and appropriate consent will be confirmed.

If you feel anxious or have discussed sedation, tell the team before your appointment so any required arrangements can be made safely. You may need a responsible adult to accompany you home, and you must follow the driving and recovery restrictions given by your clinician.

After Your Treatment

Your clinician will explain cleaning, food, prescribed medicines, possible swelling or bruising, and any follow-up visit needed to review healing or remove stitches.

Follow your individual instructions carefully, especially advice about smoking, alcohol, mouthwash and activity. Contact your practice promptly if you experience unexpected pain, worsening swelling, persistent bleeding or any other concern.

More Treatment Aftercare Guidance

Looking After Your Implant Long Term

Dental implants need regular professional review and careful daily cleaning. Your dentist or hygienist will explain the maintenance visits and home-care tools appropriate for your restoration.
