Software may highlight areas that deserve closer review, compare measurements or help a clinician explain an image. Its output is a prompt, not a diagnosis. Image quality, anatomy, restorations and the software's training data can all affect what is detected or missed.
Your Dentist Remains Accountable
The clinician combines the X-ray with an examination, symptoms, medical history and professional judgement. They decide whether a finding is real, whether more information is needed and what options are appropriate. A patient should be able to ask how technology influenced a recommendation.
Data and Consent Questions
Digital dental systems must be used with appropriate information governance and security. Patients can ask what software is being used, how images are handled and whether information leaves the practice system. Technology should support transparent care rather than make the decision-making process less understandable.
Why Monitoring Matters
Not every early change needs immediate operative treatment. Where appropriate, the dentist may recommend prevention and review rather than a filling. Comparing images over time can support that judgement, but intervals and treatment decisions remain individual.
