Like the rest of your body, your mouth changes as you age. Decades of chewing, biting and grinding can affect the appearance and function of your teeth.
Common effects of ageing -
Tooth Wear - Providing that your teeth are well looked after, there is no reason why they can’t last your entire life. Diets that are high in sugars and acidic foods and drinks will cause wear on your teeth. The enamel will become weak and could cause your teeth to chip or crack.
Tooth Discolouration - you might have noticed that your once sparkling white smile has become more yellow as you have aged. This is due to the thinning of the enamel which has left the dentin layer of your teeth exposed.
Receding Gums - As we age the gum tissue loosens around the teeth, and bacteria can easily build up in these pockets around your teeth and causing inflammation and eventually periodontal disease and dental decay. If left untreated both periodontal disease and decay will lead to tooth loss.
Fine Lines and Wrinkles - Smile lines are fine lines and wrinkles which develop around the sides of your mouth. They occur naturally as our skin loses collagen, but certain lifestyle choices such as smoking, drinking alcohol, not getting enough sleep and dehydration will speed up the process.
While we should always be grateful to have had the privilege of ageing, we are also lucky enough to have the privilege of ageing gracefully.
How we can help.
Teeth Whitening - According to a recent survey, whiter teeth can make you appear more successful, more attractive and can even knock up to 10 years off your estimated age.
Smile Makeover - Whether it’s composite veneers, teeth straightening, porcelain veneers or dental implants a smile makeover can dramatically transform your overall appearance. Replacing missing teeth or repairing broken teeth will make eating and chewing a lot easier and more effective.
Hygienist - A good clean of your teeth will not just improve your gum health but also remove any stains that have built up on your teeth.
Anti-Wrinkle Injections/Dermal Fillers - Injectables are a safe effective way to reduce fine lines and plump up thinning lips. Relaxing muscles and adding fullness to areas of the face can make people appear dramatically more youthful.
